OCEAN OBJECT  Solo Exhibition - Nona Jean Hulsey Gallery, Oklahoma City University.  February-March 2020

I built a wooden floor drawing as a counterpart to the Pacific Quilt, and installed the work in a theatrically-lit gallery.  The walls surrounding these two giant pieces were punctuated by small models and fabric sketches of ocean currents, with lots of open space surrounding the work.

In the life-sized floorplan of my bedroom, the wooden pieces are loose and simple, like driftwood, and can be easily skewed or rearranged. I was thinking about scale: the scale of the ocean, and the scale of my domestic life, and what it might mean to bring these together. The floorplan drawing makes it evident that the ocean quilt will flood and cover my entire bedroom.
